So I'm sure you guys have all heard about what's going on in the Amazon Rainforest. If you haven't, I'll give you a quick rundown of what's going on.
The fires in the Amazon have been going on for 3 weeks now, and it seems like a lot of people are just ignoring it completely. The Amazon Rainforest is a huge part of not only Brazil's ecosystem, but the world's ecosystem as well. The Amazon provides 20% of the world's oxygen, and holds millions of plant an animal species as well as indigenous people, many of which are now threatened by the fires. While fires are a normal occurrence, this is far beyond what it should be, and most of them are man made. The Brazilian president doesn't seem concerned about it, but he's not exactly big on environmental issues either.
Currently, the fire in the Amazon is so big, smoke can be seen FROM SPACE. Cities in Brazil are being covered in smoke, and are causing serious health problems to many of the people, especially children and the elderly. These fires don't threaten just the Amazon, but also the people of Brazil, and we need to do something about it.
Here is a petition you can sign, and I encourage everyone who reads this do it. It costs you no money, and you can help show your support for the Amazon Rainforest.
If you're able to donate, here are a few different websites who are dedicated to helping save the Amazon:
There's also a new search engine called Ecosia that plants one tree for roughly 45 searches. It costs no money and helps give back to the environment, so please consider using Ecosia to help plant more trees.
The Amazon Rainforest is being killed, and though it's a daunting task, if enough of us pitch in, we can change things and help save the environment. Please take a moment of your time to sign a petition, donate to an organization, or just share this journal to help spread the word.
EDIT: Found a few more places to donate to if possible.
